Four of our eight pumpkins that actually survived the squirrels nibbling them on our front steps...

diy: halloween bat balloon straws

These straws are a silly little Halloween party touch...and they're super easy to make!

To make them, you'll need:

black water balloons {available here}
Halloween colored paper straws {similar available here}
peel and stick googly eyes {available here}
thick black paper or cardstock
bat wing template {optional...I used a cookie cutter {similar here} but search google for an outline or just doodle it!}

Start by inflating the balloons to about 2 inches in diameter.  Squeeze the air down to make them round before knotting them.

Fold the cardstock in half and make bat wing templates.  Use a white pencil if you have one to make it easy!

Cut out bat shapes from the cardstock.

Tie the balloon to the top of the straw.

Slip in the cardstock wings.  The balloon should be snug enough against the straw to hold them in place.

Stick on the googly eyes.

And put the straws in your favorite party drinks!

Happy Halloween!

sunday bakes

In an effort to make a few more family memories...and to just slow down and enjoy our tiny bit of time together between all the go go go, I'm adopting Melanie's idea of making a different dessert each Sunday.

Today was brown butter chocolate chip cookies from Joy the Baker.  Am I the last person on the internet to have tried brown butter??

I won't confess how many I've eaten already.

Of course I still love these chocolate chip cookies and Meg's definitely get two thumbs up.  But now I have an excuse to work my way through all those desserts I've pinned. ;)

diy: halloween tassel + charm necklaces

This post is sponsored by Plaid. All opinions are my own.  As always, thanks for reading! xo

My 4 year old {okay, me too} has been going crazy over all the cute tassel and charm necklaces that we've been seeing  lately.

Of course I knew they're totally a DIY-able project.

So when this package of Folk Art paints and glow in the dark Mod Podge arrived in the mail, I knew exactly what I was going to do with it.

Halloween charm necklaces!

To make these, you'll need:

metallic cording
plastic pony beads and tassels {click here for a simple tassel how to}
plastic skulls or other Halloween charms ...mine were from a skeleton garland I found at the grocery store
neon paint {I used neon pink and licorice}
paint brush
wooden skewers {optional}

I started by giving the skeleton heads a quick spray of primer.

I've always had the best luck painting beads by sliding them on wooden skewers.

Then I gave each bead a few coats of paint.  Folk Art has a patented, self-sealing formula that offers better coverage in fewer coats and quick drying times. Whatever charms you choose to use, the same bottle of paint works for wood, glass, ceramic, metal, terra cotta, rigid plastic, canvas, styrofoam, slate, paper mache and fabric!

After the paint dried, I gave each skull a few more coats of glow in the dark Mod Podge.  If you want more glow, just add more coats!

Then start stringing your beads and tassels!

We ended up making a whole bunch assembly line style...which are going to be perfect favors for our preschool Halloween party!
