diy: halloween bat dessert toppers

If you need a spooky...but not too spooky...topper for your Halloween desserts, these are just right.

And they only take a few minutes to make...as long as it takes for your glue gun to heat up!

All you need is wooden skewers, hot glue, and Martha Stewart Crafts bat silhouettes.

Unfold the bats, affix the skewer to the back of the bat with a small line of glue, and you're all set.

Plunk them down in your dessert and party!!

Happy Halloween!

halloween hot chocolate spoons

I put together these little treats as favors for friends on Halloween because in Chicago, you never know what kind of trick or treat weather we're going to have.

Usually it's cold.

Or rainy.

Or rainy and cold.

Haha.

Chances are, hot chocolate is going to be a good choice to help warm up no matter what.

The spoons are really easy to make.  All you need is dark chocolate {or whatever flavor you like} bark discs, tiny marshmallows, and some festive sprinkles or tiny candies.

Then just melt down the chocolate according to the package directions and, using a standard metal spoon, carefully fill the wooden spoons with chocolate...it takes very little to fill them, so melt just a handful of chocolate discs at a time.

Before the chocolate cools and sets in the spoon, top with mini marshmallows and sprinkles.

I made the bags but just trimming felt into a pumpkin and gluing it on...and of course added a few little embellishments.

And then on Halloween night, all you need to do is warm up mugs of milk and stir in chocolate with the festive chocolate filled spoons.  So fun and so cute!

Enjoy!!

gifting: fall carrot cake cupcakes in a jar

I'm not yet in the season of my life where I can volunteer at school for my littles...juggling the two youngest or finding a babysitter just isn't practical right now...but when the room moms ask for help putting together a teacher lunch, I'm all over it.

So of course I signed up to bring dessert.

I used Martha's carrot cake recipe and her cream cheese frosting recipe {two of my faves...recipes here and here or in her baking handbook!} and then just fall-ified the jars {because clearly cupcakes in jars are also my fave...here and here!} with leaves, glittery ribbon, and tags.

Festive and fun!  {and it tastes good, too! :)}

diy: candy corn pinatas

When my sister turned 30 over the summer, I got creative with packaging her gift and made a pinata.

I enjoyed making hers so much that I had to try again.

So candy corn pinatas for Halloween it is!

I made them the same way I did last time...cutting a cereal box into candy corn shapes, using masking tape for the sides, and then using my Martha fringe scissors on tissue paper before gluing the strips to the form.

I went more into detail here.

Now I just have to decide who I'm going to give them to!!

from halloweens past

We've been spending our long weekend halloweening...a trip to the pumpkin patch, a few crafty projects, and a little bit of decorating.

I always like looking back at my old projects for things I may want to try again...and in case you're looking for some inspiration too {look out round up post!}...here are some faves....

halloween sprinkle popcorn

We love sprinkle popcorn to celebrate holidays in our house.

So the other day I pulled out the black and orange Halloween sprinkles and made a batch.
It's seriously so easy...but still so cute...I shared how we do it right here.

The boys went crazy over the spiders on the bowls...they're just spider rings that I cut a slit in the ring and slipped over the edge of the bowls!
