diy: spooky eye halloween terrariums

The last terrarium I made has been doing so well I thought it was time for another.  {Or three!}  These terrariums are quick and easy to make and are a fun Halloween twist on the standard glass jar variety.

I can totally see these being an easy teacher Halloween treat, too!

"Ghosty"...the perfect plant variety for this project!

To make one, you'll need:

glass vessel of some sort {I used stemless wine glasses}
Martha Stewart Decoupage Paper {available at Michael's}
Martha Stewart Durable Decoupage Finish in gloss finish {also available at Michael's}
small paintbrush
plants to fit inside jars/glasses {I chose succulents}
potting soil
pebbles

To start, I trimmed a few sets of spooky eyes from the decoupage paper.

I then decided where I wanted them to go on my glass and marked it with a piece of washi tape. {This also helps keep them level!}

To adhere the eyes to the glass, I first brushed a thin coat of the decoupage finish on the glass, and then a thin coat on the back of the eye cut outs.

I positioned the eyes as I liked them on the glass.

And after letting the decoupage dry, I sealed them with another thin coat of decoupage finish.

The finish surprised me with just how glossy it turned out...I thought for sure it would show at least some brush strokes...none!  It is hard and glossy and really looks like glass.

I also learned that Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Formulas and Finishes can be used on any surface...glass, fabric, paper, metal and wood...to create a lustrous finish. AND all of the decoupage formulas are dishwasher safe, machine washable, non-yellowing, dry hard with no tack, and can be used indoors or out.

Of course Martha's products are all that good!! :)

Anywho.

I let the decoupage finish dry, and then filled my glasses with a layer of pebbles {for drainage} and soil before adding my plants.  {My trusty little assistant was happy to help spoon dirt!}

And there you go.  Spooky Halloween terrariums!
