Healthier living...Diet Coke...and being way out of my comfort zone
I was compensated for my participation in Coca-Cola's Balanced Living Workshop, but my thoughts and views are my own.
So.
Yeah.
I'm going to a blogger conference.
Ahhh!
Just typing that gets my heart racing.
I was invited to attend the upcoming Coca-Cola Balanced Living Workshop in Chicago.
And it sounds amazing.
Okay, it may have also had something to do with the maker of my beloved Diet Coke being the host! :)
I'm in serious need of a healthy living overhaul.
Remember when I said I was going to run 500 miles this year?
Uh, notsomuch.
Try half that.
If I'm lucky.
I'll confess we are not the healthiest eaters.
And I'm afraid I'm teaching my children these bad habits.
Time to do something.
Over the course of two days I'll have the opportunity to do so many cool things:
- meet with dietitians and nutritionists
- create a wellness plan for my family
- take a trip to the grocery store for a lesson on how to make the best produce choices
- participate in cooking demonstrations with professional chefs
Two days to get energized and informed about new ways to live a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
Saying yes seemed like a no-brainer.
But.
For a girl like me ... the one who likes to hide behind my computer, the one who likes to hide behind my sewing machine, the one who likes to hide behind big sunglasses ...
... just getting up the nerve to say yes and go is a big deal.
I'm totally shy.
I'm totally an introvert.
I avoid eye contact at school pick-up and the pool so I don't feel awkward and weird around the other moms.
Did I just reveal too much about myself there?
I'm never so happy and content as when I'm home with my littles.
But I'm doing this.
I'm putting on my big-girl pants and driving downtown (don't get crazy now ... I will be glued to the navigation!) because I think this is a great opportunity.
I'd love a plan to help my family and me live healthier in the new year. (Eek! Did I really just type something about the new year already?!)
And if you're local and you'll be there please introduce yourself and say hi.
Please?
I'll be the girl behind the big sunglasses hiding in the corner. ;)
find me!
You will do great! I am the same type of person and I live in Chicago myself. It's a great city. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI do have to say that Diet Coke sponsoring something related to healthy living cracks me up. What a joke.
ReplyDeleteBut excited for your opportunities! Good for you facing your fears!
i just wanted to tell you that your post moved me to comment for the first time i believe. you are not alone! i feel much the same way, but i bet you will blossom at this conference. it is so good to stretch ourselves, isn't it? i wish i could be there, i would be your buddy! :)
ReplyDeletegood for you! i'm right with you in the 'shyness' category, and i must admit, driving downtown scares the daylights out of me! can't wait to hear how it all goes...
ReplyDeletei'll be thinking of you!

I hope you get a lot out of it :) I do think think that it's funny that diet coke is talking about health though. The best book that helped me get over my shyness was by Leil Lowndes, How To Talk To Anyone. It's so freeing to know that every one else is too worried about what you think of them to worry so much about if you have a hair out of place. I popped over to Leil's website (to make sure I was spelling it right) and I notice she has a book specifically on getting over shyness too. I hope you have fun!
ReplyDeleteI am going too!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have introvert tendencies as well.
AND this is my first ever blog conference too.
So I will look for you.
But first you will have to take your sunglasses off. :)
I wish I could be there! You do know that if I ever make it to the big city, visiting you is on my to-do list? Is that too extroverted? :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post. I do have to say I'm a little taken back that Coca Cola is sponsoring this conference. I don't allow Coca Cola in my house as High Fructose Corn Syrup is top of the ingredients. Both of my sons are active in sports and water is the way to go. I know "Diet Coke" and some of their other beverages claim to be "healthier" but I've been specifically told by my Doctor to stay away from Nutra Sweet as not only is is awful for bones but still up to debate about linked to cancer: http://digitalrjournal.com/article/336384
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the conference though, put aside the sponsorship, seems like it will be educational! :)
I'm an introvert too. School drop off = morning torture yes?
ReplyDeleteI went to my first blog conference in the Fall. I went on my own terms and took breaks alone whenever I wanted to and I loved it. Hope it's a great experience :)
Sounds pretty awesome. I'd go just for the cooking demonstrations. I like to eat, if you couldn't tell.
