Stuff.
Inspired by Sarah and Sarah, I'm spending this Lent purging our home of the excess stuff we've amassed. Like Sarah, my goal is to get rid of 40 bags. And like Sarah, my goal is to simplify.
Maybe it's nesting.
Maybe it's spring cleaning.
Maybe it's my fascination with Hoarders marathons.
Whatever it is, the stuff has got to go.
And it's going. I've spent the past week digging through closets and drawers and piles of stuff.
Stuff I fell in love with at the store.
Stuff I had big plans for.
Stuff that I had big plans for, but I didn't know what they were yet.
Stuff that I thought I couldn't live without.
Stuff that I didn't need or want, but was easier to just ignore sitting in a pile.
I guess I never realized how much stuff we really had.
I'm less than a week in and I've already come up with several bags of garbage and bags of giveaways. And there's nothing in any of those bags that I'm really going to miss. I'm certainly not going to miss the clutter.
I've gotta say, it feels good already. And after 40 days? It's going to feel great!
I'm doing this too. It feels amazing to let go of things just clogging up our home! I can't wait to tackle another little area each day!
ReplyDeleteI just did a huge purging a couple weeks ago - it feels great! If I haven't touched something in 6 months it's gone :)
ReplyDeleteI will be amazed if you all get to 40 bags each. Are you sure there is THAT much stuff to go?
ReplyDeleteA great thing to do. I am doing my bit too, however I have found that I mustn't leave as much time between 'clear outs' as I thought! x
I think I definitely have 40 bags worth of stuff that needs to just go. What a great idea for Lent!
ReplyDeleteThat is fabulous! Enjoy the "purging". (I just LOVE getting rid of things!)
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea! Thanks for sharing:)
ReplyDeleteMy book club and I have been reading Unstuff by the DiMarcos. It has really made it easier to get rid on not just physical stuff, but emotional junk, too. Good luck!

I have been on a mission too! Part of it has to do with being in a new house and realizing that things that I had bought over the years are just not working in this new space, either space-wise or color-wise or size-wise or style-wise. My motivation is that I am having a tag sale at the end of next month and it makes it so much easier to just pick up all the random items and put them in the tag sale pile. Maybe get a little cash-o-la.
ReplyDeleteYAY! Thanks for the shout out! Isn't it liberating?!
ReplyDeleteWe are on board with the same thing at our house. I'm having a hard time with the craft cupboard though. I thought I could send the excess stuff to my daughter's school? It will feel REALLY good to be rid off excess in the end.

My husband and I are on the same mission- we're tired of letting stuff weigh us down. I once heard someone say that we use 80% of our stuff only 20% of the time, and it really got me thinking.. I can't help but wonder why we spend so much energy looking after our perceived treasures.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the purge!
We live in such tight quarters (storage-wise), I'm not sure I'd have 40 bags...phew!
