My first sewing project of the year

I finally dusted off my sewing machine and finished a project.

My little break was growing into a long one.  Way too long.

So I pulled out my favorite pattern for baby kimono jammies and made a couple.

One pink.

One blue.

Why?

Because a new little brother or sister is joining our family this summer!

I was wondering if you could answer a sewing question for me? I am (very) new to sewing and I've been trying to make your quilted coasters and I just made 2 placemats yesterday. My question is: Do you back stitch when you start and finish your decorative top stitching. I can't tell in your pictures but I am having a hard time getting the squares you make on the coasters to meet start to end and when I get to the end I have no idea if I'm to back stitch...I figure I must so it doesn't unravel...? Also with your placemats, do you handstitch them closed or just run your first decorative topstitch over to close it up? I'm sorry to be so "sewing needy" but I love your simple but classic projects and thought they'd be a great way to practice. They are also the kind of projects that attracted me to sewing. Here is my email abelld@comcast.net
Thank you so much and again...congratulations on a new baby...what a blessing!
