Another use for my beloved freezer paper
Do you have a roll of freezer paper that you bought for stencilling projects like this? Another great way to use it is for tracing and cutting pattern pieces.
For the longest time, I wondered how I could make multiple sizes from a single pattern. I was also so hard on them that between pinning and cutting, patterns were becoming one time use only.
Fine if patterns are on sale for 99 cents, not cool otherwise.
Then I realized if I traced the pattern pieces onto freezer paper, I could make different sizes for each of my boys and leave the original pattern intact. I trace the pattern as many times (and sizes) that I need, then I iron the freezer paper pattern directly to my fabric and cut around it. Easy peasy and the original pattern is still as good as new!
And as a bonus, the freezer paper pattern pieces are repositionable and reusable--just peel them off and iron again!
Awesome! Thanks
ReplyDeleteI've been using butcher paper to trace patterns for a few years now, but it never occured to me to use freezer paper and iron it on instead of pin it to the fabric! I'm so excited to use the idea! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteQuestion: when you are tracing your pattern onto the freezer paper, do you pin it down and trace? Or tape?
ReplyDeleteKrista...I just use pattern weights to hold it in place.
ReplyDeleteOr in my case today, the itty bitty pumpkins that were sitting on my dining room table. ;)
I use this for all my patterns, it works great too if you want to cut a piece in a certain shape to have on hand. Like a star, heart, stocking, what not.
ReplyDeleteBest. Idea. EVER!! Why didn't I think of that?!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I just tried to cute pieces with poster board last night and it did not work to well. I am going to be buying me a roll.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog so much. Thanks for sharing your great ideas !
ReplyDeleteI love freezer paper. I have been using a pattern I cut this summer and it is holding up beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty great. will have to give it a try on my next sewing project!
ReplyDeleteYep, I use it this way too!
ReplyDeleteGenius! I just used freezer paper to make a shirt pattern last week, only because I needed a rather large piece of paper. I never thought to iron it directly onto the fabric. Thanks! I HATE pinning patterns!!!
ReplyDeleteah, the last time I used a pattern from a book that had overlapping patterns, I used parchment paper. Freezer paper is genius, thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, this is one of the best things I learned in my sewing class.
ReplyDeletei didn't realize that you could iron them multiple times. i too use them for stenciling and pattern making. when i stencil i just kind of rip them off. now i will have to be more careful and do the same for cutting pieces. awesome!
ReplyDeleteGREAT idea! I've used pellon to make different sizes from the same pattern & save the original, but I like this idea even better (it's WAY less expensive!)...thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDelete♥hugs♥
