In the kitchen
Yesterday we took a break from the sun and water and spent the afternoon in the kitchen. It was a lovely (and welcome) change of pace.
I was long overdue to cut back my leggy basil plant, so armed with a basketful of homegrown basil and parsley, we made my favorite pesto.
It's definitely one of my fresh from the garden, summery favorites.
For dessert, we made oatmeal raisin cookies.
I double the raisins, though. Sorry, Martha.
Tell me you buy things just for the containers, too. :)
Now I am just (im)patiently waiting for these to ripen a little. Apricot jam and this awesome bread up next!
YUM ;0)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a yummy day. :)
ReplyDeleteMmmm. Makes me wish I were not too hot to cook. I'm so excited for fall baking! (Not that I will probably do much this year.)
ReplyDeleteThose oatmeal raisin cookies look yummy. We love to eat steel cut oats for breakfast....and yes I have to confess that sometimes I buy stuff for the container.
ReplyDeleteSo, did you use the steel cut in your oatmeal cookies, and if so, what recipe did you use. The hubs is very interested.
Cheryl-I did indeed use the oats pictured for the cookies. The recipe I linked to is the one I used...they turned out great!
ReplyDeleteI'm liking your cute bowls!

i just had those same oats for breakfast this morning...i never have used them in baking, but your cookies look fabulous! your pesto inspired me as well..i am looking at my garden and thinking i will make some pesto to go in my white bean "chili".
ReplyDeletei buy things just for the container, too. especially coffee because i love foreign coffee cans. they make perfect flower vases for the kitchen. those cookies look delicious. another yummy version of oatmeal cookies is to add one cup butterscotch chips and 1/2 cup craisins. yummy!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cookies and yes, I buy things for the container ALL the time. Guilty as charged and happy to know I am in good company.
ReplyDeletethose biscuits do look yummy, I have an oatmeal cookie recipe that also has dried apricot, macadamias and white chocolate in them. Delicious with a cuppa.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day to me and delicious too. I love pesto and those cookies, oh they are calling my name...I may just have to bake soon :)
ReplyDeletedelicious! i love the mason jar!
ReplyDeleteYou have some great things going on the in the kitchen. I really enjoy pesto...and fresh pesto sounds even better. Those cookies look delicious in that jar. I can't wait to see your jam and bread...yum! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteDelish! You had me at pesto! Did ya know if you put peaches in a paper bag and close it up that they will ripen faster? It works really well……something about the gas that it omits helps speed up the process if you close them up in a bag.
ReplyDeleteHappy cooking!

I've made your pesto recipe and I can confirm that it is de-lish!! And I'm not a huge pesto fan. I am also a container junkie and I keep a little bin of containers from various things to repurpose with and regift with. Also, if you have ever shopped ay Whole Foods Market they have wonderful selections of containers that you can choose from, kraft Chinese boxes, white bakery boxes, clear plastic salt boxes...good stuff for foodie gift giving...including wax lunch bags!! Can you tell I am excited?
ReplyDeleteyour photography consistently blows me away. Love the pictures of the cookies as much as I know I would love eating them. ;o)
ReplyDeleteNever mind the food. I'm salivating over the wonderful photos of the food. Would love to know where you lighting is from? Kitchen window? I don't do food posts because I hate how my photo's look. A possible post perhaps? Loved the cookies in the jar with wax paper. Soo out of my league as I stuff mine in cracked rubbermaid containers. Thats why I love to visit!

Well it is so worth suffering from blog hopping disease when it leads to finding a super blog like yours. I can't wait to visit you often and would love it if you popped over to my little bit of Blogland
ReplyDeleteKindest Regards Linda
Looks great!
ReplyDeleteYou are so blessed to have all those apricots! That is my absolute favorite jelly! :o)
ReplyDeleteAnd yummy pesto! Oh boy, I took almost all my basil leaves off the plant and hoping it will replenish one more time for another batch. :o)
Your cookies look amazing too!
Sincerely ~ Tricia
Wow! Your pictures are *so* beautiful! It seems like everyone grows their own herbs. I, on the other hand, have absolutely no green thumb. Your cookies look yummy! Stopping over from Tatertots and Jello!
ReplyDeleteyour kitchen has been very busy! I just came across those jars last week and bought a few...we did not have them in London, they remind me of my childhood...off to make some summer preserve.
