We're jammin'
Like that crooked birdhouse hanging in the background? Those sparrows know how to party.
The easiest, most delicious summer recipe that I make is jam. It's so simple...nothing more than fruit fresh from the market, a little sugar and fruit pectin.
Now I realize that every blogger and her mom has been posting their jam making adventures over the past few weeks. What's one more? :) Once you've made it yourself, I promise you'll never go back.
My "recipe" isn't anything special. I just follow the directions right off the pectin packet, which costs about 2 bucks at WalMart. I cut down the sugar to less than a cup, though, since the berries this time of year are super sweet on their own. I also use the 16 oz Ball jars because they look cuter tied with a ribbon! And we may or may not have any problem polishing off the large jars...
Our nearby fruit market had strawberries for $0.59/pound, so I went a little berry buying crazy. I hope every family member we see this weekend enjoys getting a jar for themselves!
Oh my your jam looks so good...
ReplyDeleteyum! I'm so glad my husband is into making jam, he made ours last night. And 59 cents a pound, niiice!
ReplyDeleteThey look so YUMMY!
ReplyDeleteWOW....totally impressed. I would so love to do this....especially since we consume strawberry jelly by the truckload.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm jam.... I don't know if you can tell, but I'm drooling right now!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE one more. I'm going to a friend's house tomorrow so that she can show me how to make jam and I am SO excited. So I love seeing all of the posts beforehand so I can be more prepared. Happy eating!
ReplyDeleteWow Cheryl! Your jam photos are amazing...I felt like was looking right through the pages of my favorite food magazine! Love the different viewpoints. I may have to give homemade jam a try after seeing those gorgeous shots.
ReplyDeleteI just got a ton of rhubarb from my in-laws yard, so we've got rhubarb jam coming out our ears!
ReplyDeleteI'm not one to make jams simply because Hubby does not eat it, but my daughter makes a great strawberry jam each year and sends me a jar! YUM

Beautiful photos! I could stare at jam all day. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely post, Cheryl. Your photos are great, and the jam looks yummy. And you're right...the ribbon is adorable on those jars!
ReplyDeleteSo how do you get your jam to set using that little sugar? I hate adding six cups of sugar to perfectly sweet strawberries, but the box has me convinced the world will end if I don't use exactly what they tell me to use!
ReplyDeleteI've yet to try my hand at making jam. It looks beautiful and yummy! You make it look so easy.

YUM! We've been searching high and low for good cheap strawberries. Hopefully this weekend the Farmer's Market here will have some! Love the way your presented the jam, with the cute ribbon!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I cracked up about your crooked birdhouse. Too funny!
ReplyDeleteLooks so good! I have never made jam before but you make it look easy. I may get brave and try it!
The blackberries look divine. We're still waiting for berries to really ripen where I am...so excited.
ReplyDeleteHomemade Jams are THE BEST!! My (grown) children will only eat my strawberry jam...guess they need to learn to make it themselves!
ReplyDeleteTHANKS for sharing. The pictures are beautiful.
There's nothing quite like making your own. Jackie
ReplyDeleteI have never made my own jam, but have been wanting to and this may be the summer I do. So, is this freezer jam you made?
ReplyDeleteYour jars look so sweet with the ribbon on it.
Oh boy this looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteYou should get a strawberry huller! It makes it so much easier. Don't you just love this time of year?!
ReplyDeletePssst....you can use freezer berries too! :) In case someone doesn't get a great deal on strawberries *ahem* even though I live nearly 2 miles from Strawberry land (i.e. Plant City, Fl.) We normally pay $3 & up a lb. ack. lol
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had fun! De-lish... waiting on our blackberries now, very, very close to being ripe, that is if there's any left over after Sammy the Lab gets through snacking on them...
ReplyDeleteSO cute!
ReplyDeleteYou make it look so easy (and pretty).
ReplyDeleteI've never tried to make jam, but my mom made it every year when I was little...it seemed so complicted, but I think you've convinced me I might not regret trying.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures.
I love strawberry!!!
ReplyDeleteOh so yum! Your photos are amazing!
