I scream, you scream

For homemade ice cream!

Our summer vacation has been filled with lots of sweet, drippy treats.  I've always wanted to try making ice cream myself, but never wanted to commit the cabinet space to an ice cream maker.

I can thank Darby again for this recipe.  Homemade ice cream without an ice cream maker?  Perfect.  I took her recipe, and added to it to make a strawberry batch and a rocky road batch.

For the strawberry, I added a few good squirts of Hershey's strawberry syrup.  I'd guess probably a quarter of a cup.

For the rocky road, I chopped a half cup of nuts (I used walnuts because that's what I had, but I think "real" rocky road requires almonds...either way, I love the walnuts and will make it the same way again) and added 2 cups of mini marshmallows to her chocolate recipe.

And it turned out to be sooo good!

  1. We've been looking at getting an ice cream maker, but I have absolutely no room for one. This is a great recipe! Maybe I'll give it a try for a birthday party I'm hosting next week :)

  2. Looks yummy. We have a quite old ice cream maker and use it, but not often enough to commit cupboard space in the kitchen. It lives in the basement until we use it. We make the real thing and gosh is it YUMMERS!

  3. Yummy. This is a recipe I will have to try. My hubby is famous for his homemade ice cream that requires a freezer, lots of eggs, sugar, cream, and patience. This would be a nice change of pace. Thanks for the link! :o)

  6. This looks great. I finally let an ice cream maker have some cabinet space and we use it quite a bit. The kids LOVE making their own treat in the summer.

My Home and Family Friday linky party is open through the evening, if you'd like to link this up.
