Easy camera/cell phone/iPod pouch
In light of recent camera tragedies, I thought it would be a good idea if I made some sort of little case for my camera. I came up with these last night.
They were really fast, so I made a few. They're the perfect size for a cell phone or iPod as well.
It was really easy to do. Here's how:
15 x 5 strip of fabric for the lining
15 x 5 strip of fabric for the outside
15 x 5 piece of fusible batting or fusible fleece
Start by ironing the batting to the lining fabric.
Pin lining fabric and outer fabric, right sides together.
Sew, leaving an opening big enough for turning on one of the short sides. Don't forget to backstitch!
Clip corners, being careful not cut any stitches and turn rightside out. I like to use a knitting needle. Don't use anything too pointy or sharp, as it'll go through the fabric.
Press, being sure to fold in the opening.
Topstitch the side with the opening, being sure to sew it shut.
Fold, lining side in, to the size you want your finished pouch. Pin and topstitch around remaining sides, starting at a bottom corner and sewing your way around.
That's it! A pretty little case to protect your camera, phone, iPod...whatever.
Thank you for the tutorial - I love your blog!

Okay, this is absolutely fabulous! I have a case for my iPod Touch, but it's been missing several weeks...I hate carrying the touchscreen without some kind of padding. I am sitting down to make this right now - thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this tutorial! I have been learning to sew over the last couple weeks, and I have had SO much fun working on these. Not to mention, my ipod and camera were in desperate need of covers (cute ones, preferably).
ReplyDeleteI've learned so much just from reading your blog!
I am new to your site. I am not really a crafter. I always love to look at what other people are making. I saw how cute and perfect your cell phone carriers are for the purse. I WANT 2. Are you selling them? I looked on your etsy shop and couldnt find them. How much? Will you make me 2? I LOVE THEM!!!

ReplyDeleteReferenced this AWESOME tutorial on my blog today:
ReplyDeletehttp://cleanmama.blogspot.com/2011/04/tutorial-love.html
Thanks for the inspiration!
I just found this tutorial---wonderful---I really like the way you finished the edges so that the lining shows just a little bit on the outside. It's so clean and tailored looking. I made it for my I-touch but it was way too big. I shortened the width to 4 1/2 and the length to 13 1/2. An I-phone would probably fit in it. I love, love it. I'm using the first pouch for pencils and pens in my purse. Now I have a little purse ensemble----fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to make this thanks for the tutorial I'll reference you on my blog...
ReplyDeleteThis looks great!
ReplyDeleteAnyone have any suggestions for alternatives to the fusible batting or fusible fleece? I have batting and fleece but neither are fusible. I would prefer not to buy anything new for this project, so I was thinking about sewing the batting/fleece to the lining using diagonal stripes like I've seen in quilting instructions (though I've never actually quilted!)
I'm looking forward to making this as soon as I get home in a few hours so long as I can figure out what to use instead of the fusible batting!
Thanks in advance!!
they look verry beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI need to buy a new phone, ans i also need to buy fabric to make a lovely pouch.
good tutorial,thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteI'm VERY new to sewing on a machine & I'm trying this right now...on the last step...I think I may have made it too small...I used different measurements to fit my cell phone and I think I may have went a tiny bit too small but not by much...oh well, I'm learning, lol...THanks for the great tutorial:)
ReplyDeleteI linked this to my blog-made one today ! Thanks for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI finished this last night! Thanks for the tutorial. It's really good and easy to follow, even though I hardly ever sew. I do not have a sewing machine, so I sewed this all by hand. It took me forever, but it turned out so cute! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!!!
Not sure if my previous comment was posted. Anyhow, I finished this yesterday, and found your tutorial very straight-forward. Thanks! I had to sew it by hand because I don't have a sewing machine, but although it took me forever, it turned out very cute!!!
ReplyDeleteYay Holly! Great job!!
