The look for less

I love the look of vintage schoolhouse light fixtures from the 1940s. When we redid the kitchen, I knew I had to have one.

Look at these beauties.

Too bad they're all so expensive! Most are $150+, so not really in the budget. But how does a girl in love still manage to get one?
Why create one for herself, of course! Here's my fixture...
And here's how I recreated the look.
I found a glass ceiling fan shade at Home Depot. It cost about $40.
And a globe fixture like this for about $15.

I used the fitter (white base part) from the globe fixture and the ceiling fan shade. The two together look pretty close to the actual schoolhouse fixtures, and for 100 bucks less!
